🥾 Fueling the Climb: A Perfect Hike
Powered by Simplicity (and Snacks)
Yesterday’s hike was a complete success—especially when it came to nutrition and hydration.
I started the day with what’s quickly become my signature breakfast:
🫐 Blueberry Summit Fuel—my pre-hike smoothie, paired with a Milton’s English muffin, a cup of chai, 500ml of water, and my daily 1000 IU of Vitamin D.
Right from the start, I felt energized, focused, and grounded.
My internal checklist for the day was simple:
Cover the distance
Keep my heart rate under 180
Finish injury-free
And that meant letting go of comparison.
Yes, plenty of people passed me on the trail—but I kept my competitor self happily distracted, locked in a room with snacks and a mountain view. 😉
🔁 This Is Simplify & Summit™ in Action
Sustain: Fuel consistently, listen to the body, stay calm.
Adapt: Slight tweaks to my usual sandwich = major satisfaction.
Clarify the Goal: It’s not about speed. It’s about sustainable strength.
⏱️ Hourly Refueling = Pure Joy
Every hour, I stopped for TrailFlow Crunch—my homemade trail mix that’s not too sweet, just the right crunch, and incredibly kind to my stomach. Same goes for my hydration strategy:
Miracle Pineapple Mix—a refreshing drink that kept my energy up without a single cramp or stomach issue.
And here's a little trail miracle:
My climbing partner—who’s strong and fast but not training or following Simplify & Summit™—hit the wall with severe cramps. I shared some of my pineapple drink, and he semi-recovered enough to continue hiking.
This is what performance preparedness looks like. Not flashy—just effective.
🥪 A Summit-Worthy Sandwich
I made one change to my usual summit sandwich, and wow—what a win.
Summit Joy Sandwich:
Peanut butter, one date, seven dried longan fruits, and half a banana.
The banana added creaminess and sweetness that turned a cold, cloudy summit into a celebration—at least for my taste buds. Even without the views, I found joy in the rocks, the trail, and the tiny picnic moment that felt like a reward.
💪 Today = Cross-Training Ready
I woke up energized and ready to tackle my cross-training session—no crashes, no soreness, and a deep sense of yes, this is working.
This hike was one of the most perfect training sessions I’ve had from a nutrition perspective—and it reminds me why small changes, done consistently, are so powerful.
